I just had to come back one last time
Ma’am I know you don’t know me from Adam
But these handprints on the front steps are mine
Up those stairs in that little back bedroom
Is where I did my homework and I learned to play guitar
I bet you didn’t know under that live oak
My favorite dog is buried in the yard
I thought if I could touch this place or feel it
This brokenness inside me might start healing
Out here it’s like I’m someone else
I thought that maybe I could find myself
If I could just come in I swear I’ll leave
Won’t take nothing but a memory
From the house that built me
Mama cut out pictures of houses for years
From Better Homes and Gardens magazine
Plans were drawn and concrete poured
Nail by nail and board by board
Daddy gave life to mama’s dream
I thought if I could touch this place or feel it
This brokenness inside me might start healing
Out here it’s like I’m someone else
I thought that maybe I could find myself
If I could just come in I swear I’ll leave
Won’t take nothing but a memory
From the house that built me
You leave home and you move on and you do the best you can
I got lost in this old world and forgot who I am
I thought if I could touch this place or feel it
This brokenness inside me might start healing
Out here it’s like I’m someone else
I thought that maybe I could find myself
If I walk around I swear I’ll leave
Won’t take nothing but a memory
From the house that built me
This song will probably apply more to me when I get to college. When I think of going home for Christmas I think of going home to Washington and seeing everyone at church and seeing my BFF Ben go off on his mission... Instead I'll be coming here... To Louisiana? How random.
In an unrelated topic, I'm house-sitting for a family at church this week. I was out walking their dog after work yesterday and I found a giant plastic toy bug. I was like hmm that's nasty... So, naturally, I stepped closer to get a better look.....
Totally fake, right?
Well, then it MOVED! It's REAL?! The first thing that entered my mind was, "Oh my HECK I SO live in Louisiana! Look at this! This could only exist here!" I was so grossed out. But at the same time, it was so cool! It was huge! So I had to catch it to show everyone at home. So I called my dad and he helped me get up the nerve to trap it against the wall with a tupperware thing and then hurry and put on the lid.... Well this is as far as I got....
And it took me 20 minutes to get this far. Then I called my dad again. He said I would have to wait a few minutes before he got there.... So for half an hour or so I sat like that until he came and finished the job. Thanks, Dad!
THIS sicko is life-size. At least on my computer screen its the real size... Like four inches at least. When they reach full size they are 8 inches big! That is like a nightmare!
The point of that story is that it made me miss Washington. And it's so cool that I caught a bug.
