Learning How to Sew!

I have loved learning how to sew these last few semesters!

The first sewing class that I took was a clothing construction class in winter 2013. It was so hard! I didn't like my teacher at all. I passed the class because Jake and I spent many weekends in Utah with my grandma while she helped me with my projects. We sewed a pillow, pajama pants, a collared button up shirt, and a skirt. The skirt was pretty much the only project that I still use... But I learned a lot making all of these projects! I literally would have failed my shirt project without my grandmas help. I'm so lucky that I have a skilled mom and grandma to help me with these things!

 Making the shirt....

The pillowcase...

I can't find a picture of my PJ's finished. But this is the fabric I used. They were just your typical PJ pant pattern.

This is the pattern I used for my skirt.
I had pictures of us making it but they won't load. But there are pockets that I LOVE and surprisingly they were not that hard to add!

In this same class we had a portfolio of samples that we had to do. There was probably thirty of them, but here is one of them. It's a zipper that I was mighty proud of!!

Not related to school, grandma helped me sew these cute window treatments for my kitchen window and bathroom window. It made the windows and rooms looks so much bigger!

One thing I didn't like about the first sewing class was that everyone had to follow the same patterns for our projects. So I didn't get to make a shirt that I will actually wear. I do like my skirt and the pj's don't matter, but I was bummed that the shirt was the hardest part and I don't even like it.

The next sewing class I took was fall 2013 and it was home decor. I LOVED IT! It was hands down my favorite class I have ever taken. I loved my teacher, I loved our projects, I loved the girls in my class, especially the ones I sat by, I loved everything about it! It was so fun. We had almost complete freedom with our projects. We had to do a linen project, pillow project, quilt or blanket, and window treatment. It was super fun because everyone went off on their own projects and ideas and when you finish a project you show it to the class and talk about what you did for like a minute. It was SO fun to see what everyone came up with. For the linen project I did two dish dryer pads for next to my sink because we hand wash some of our dishes,

I made this pillow for my mom, to fulfill the pillow project,

I sewed this blanket with mink on the back for the blanket project. Grandma helped me finish it,

Jake made up and drew the design...
This foot made my life SOOOO MUCH EASIER!

 The top stitch I used....

I sewed these curtains for my bedroom for the window treatment project, lighting is awful in these pictures but here!

I have really loved learning how to sew. For Christmas Jake got me crochet stuff because that's the next thing that I want to learn how to do. In May when we visit my family my mom is going to teach me the ways of being a hooker! Ha ha

This semester, winter 2014, I am taking a pattern making class. The hardest part of sewing for me is looking at a pattern and knowing what to do with it. So I hope that this class will help me take off in sewing. I am taking it from the same teacher who taught me home decor. I highly recommend her, Sister Blake. Not Blakely, there is a Blakely and I am sure she is very nice but she is not sister BLAKE. I'll do a separate post with pattern pictures!

Giant Mole

WARNING:GROSS PICTURES

So I've had this mole on my head for forever but it was always a tiny white bubble. In the last four months it has quadrupled in size, at least, and a brown ring appeared around it.

So I went to the dermatologist and he was fascinated by it, hahaha. Gross. He chopped it off right then and there and said that he'd know by Wednesday if he needs me to come back in to dig it out deeper.

Doesn't it look like a cigarette burn?
